On 18 December each year, the United Nations, through the International Organization for Migration (IOM), celebrates International Migrants Day (IMD). This observance highlights the contributions of migrants while also acknowledging the challenges they face. IMD serves as a powerful platform to showcase the diversity, resilience and invaluable contributions that migrants bring to their host communities.

Each migrant carries a remarkable story - one that does not end upon arrival but unfolds daily as they adapt to a new and often challenging environment. Especially in today’s context of rising anti-immigrant sentiment, it is more crucial than ever to emphasize the humanity, as well as shared social, cultural and economic value of migrants. A vital step towards reducing discrimination and fostering social cohesion is to humanize migrants and their journeys, cultivating mutual understanding rooted in shared humanity and socio-economic benefit.

Migrants Day reminds us of the humanity that defines migration – marked by stories of courage, determination and hope. This year, as we celebrate the diversity and myriads of contribution migrants bring to our societies, IOM is organizing a photo exhibition themed “Triumph of the Human Spirit – Capturing the Mosaic of Migrant Lives in Thailand” at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) from 17 to 22 December.

The exhibition will bring stories of 27 migrants from five different provinces in Thailand, capturing their resilience, struggles, aspirations and contributions to societies both in Thailand and back home. Through powerful visuals and narratives, the exhibition offers a glimpse into the lives of migrants—highlighting their experiences, dreams and challenges.

ชัยชนะของจิตวิญญาณมนุษย์ – การบันทึกชีวิตหลากหลายของแรงงานข้ามชาติในประเทศไทย

ทุกวันที่ 18 ธันวาคมของทุกปี องค์การสหประชาชาติ โดยองค์การระหว่างประเทศเพื่อการโยกย้ายถิ่นฐาน เฉลิมฉลองวันผู้อพยพย้ายถิ่นสากล (International Migrants Day) เพื่อให้ทุกคนเล็งเห็นความสำคัญของผู้ย้ายถิ่น รวมไปถึงอุปสรรคที่พวกเขาต้องเผชิญ วันดังกล่าวนับเป็นโอกาสสำคัญในการแสดงให้เห็นถึงความหลากหลาย ความแข็งแกร่ง และประโยชน์อย่างมหาศาลที่ผู้ย้ายถิ่นนำมาสู่สังคม

ผู้ย้ายถิ่นแต่ละคนต่างมีเรื่องราวที่น่าจดจำแตกต่างกันออกไป เรื่องราวที่ไม่สิ้นสุดลงเมื่อเดินทางมาถึง แต่ดำเนินต่อไปในทุก ๆ วัน ในขณะที่พวกเขาปรับตัวเข้ากับสภาพแวดล้อมที่แปลกใหม่และบ่อยครั้งมีความท้าทาย โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในสถานการณ์ปัจจุบันที่เริ่มมีกระแสต่อต้านผู้ย้ายถิ่น ดังนั้น จึงเป็นเรื่องสำคัญยิ่งที่จะต้องเน้นย้ำถึงคุณค่าทางสังคม วัฒนธรรม และเศรษฐกิจที่ผู้ย้ายถิ่นนำมา เพื่อสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงจิตวิญญาณของการโยกย้ายถิ่นฐาน ขั้นตอนสำคัญในการลดการเลือกปฏิบัติและส่งเสริมความสมานฉันท์ในสังคมคือการบอกเล่าเรื่องราวและการเดินทางของผู้ย้ายถิ่น ซึ่งจะช่วยหล่อหลอมความเข้าใจซึ่งกันและกันที่มีรากฐานมาจากความโอบอ้อมอารีและประโยชน์ทางสังคมและเศรษฐกิจที่มีร่วมกัน

วันผู้อพยพย้ายถิ่นสากลย้ำเตือนให้เห็นถึงจิตวิญญาณเบื้องหลังการโยกย้ายถิ่นฐาน ผ่านเรื่องราวที่บันทึกความกล้าหาญ ความทะเยอทะยาน และความหวังของมนุษย์ ในปีนี้ ไอโอเอ็มเฉลิมฉลองความหลากหลายของการมีส่วนรวมอย่างยิ่งของผู้ย้ายถิ่นผ่านนิทรรศการภาพถ่ายภายใต้แนวคิด “ชัยชนะของจิตวิญญาณมนุษย์ – การบันทึกชีวิตหลากหลายของแรงงานข้ามชาติในประเทศไทย” ที่จัดขึ้น ณ หอศิลปวัฒนธรรมแห่งกรุงเทพมหานคร ระหว่างวันที่ 17 ถึง 22 ธันวาคมนี้

นิทรรศการดังกล่าวรวบรวมประสบการณ์ของผู้ย้ายถิ่น 27 คนจาก 5 จังหวัดในประเทศไทย โดยสะท้อนเรื่องราวของความอดทน ความท้าทาย ความปรารถนา และคุณประโยชน์ของพวกเขาทั้งสำหรับประเทศไทยและภูมิลำเนา ภาพชุดนี้นำเสนอวิถีชีวิต ประสบการณ์ ความใฝ่ฝัน และความท้าทายของผู้ย้ายถิ่นผ่านภาพถ่ายและการถ่ายทอดเรื่องราวอันทรงพลัง
