The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announces the launch of a migration journalism grant programme for journalists and students to promote quality media reporting on migration in Thailand. The grant programme is part of a series of capacity building initiatives aimed at enhancing the understanding and capacity among the media to report on migration issues in a more accurate, balanced and evidence-based manner.

The programme welcomes application from journalists and students who have participated in IOM's training on migration reporting.  Five journalists and students will be selected for the three-month grant programme to develop a story on migration. Each grantee will receive a grant worth up to THB 35,000 along with editorial mentorship and guidance from thematic experts from IOM and academia. Grantees will also have the chance to participate in field visits organized by IOM to engage with migrant communities to support the creation of an in-depth story on migration.

These stories can be produced in any media forms (written, audio, visual) and will be published on IOM websites and pitched to relevant media outlets.

 
Application Process  

Applicants will be required to submit the following: 

  • Resume/CV with 2 samples

  • A cover letter outlining your motivation to participate in the grant programme  

  • A proposal for a migration-related story, which may be for digital, print, television or radio.In your proposal, please include:  

    • Title and thesis statement 

    • Why you chose the topic and its significance  

    • Background information  

    • Sources you intend to draw from (e.g individuals, data, reports, government agencies, civil society organizations etc.)  

    • Story medium (e.g short form video, long form video, written piece, photo exhibition etc.)  

    • Tonal and stylistic elements of your story  

    • Risk factors and how you intend to mitigate them 

  • Two relevant samples of your work

Timeline for the grant: 

  • Application opens 15 July 

  • The deadline for applications is 31 July 2024. 

  • Winner Announcement: 5 August 

  • Grant Period: 13 August-31 October 

 

Programme and Eligibility Criteria  

Journalists interested in applying for the programme must:  

  • Be a Thai national.  

  • Have participated in one previous training on migration reporting organized by IOM.  

  • Have a proven track record in journalism.  

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of evidence and human-rights based journalism principles and ethical reporting.

องค์การระหว่างประเทศเพื่อการโยกย้ายถิ่นฐาน (ไอโอเอ็ม) และกระทรวงการต่างประเทศเปิดตัวโครงการทุนเพื่อการรายงานข่าวเกี่ยวกับการโยกย้ายถิ่นฐานสำหรับผู้สื่อข่าวและนักศึกษา โครงการนี้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการเสริมศักยภาพผู้สื่อข่าวและนักศึกษาไทย รวมถึงส่งเสริมวาทกรรมและการรายงานข่าวเกี่ยวกับการโยกย้ายถิ่นฐานเชิงประจักร

โอกาสสำคัญ(ที่พลาดไม่ได้)สำหรับผู้สื่อข่าวและนักศึกษาที่เคยเข้าร่วมโครงการฝึกอบรมเรื่องการรายงานข่าวเกี่ยวกับการโยกย้ายถิ่นฐานกับทางไอโอเอ็มและกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ เตรียมพร้อมส่งแผนงานการรายงานข่าวและนำเสนอเรื่องราวในประเด็นที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการโยกย้ายถิ่นฐานเข้าชิงทุนมูลค่า 35,000 บาท จำนวน 5 ทุน เพื่อเข้าร่วมโครงการและจัดทำสื่อในประเด็นดังกล่าวเป็นเวลา 3 เดือน โดยผู้ได้รับการคัดเลือกทั้ง 5 คนจะได้รับคำปรึกษาด้านบรรณาธิการรวมถึงคำแนะนำจากผู้เชี่ยวชาญเฉพาะทางจากไอโอเอ็มและนักวิชาการ อีกทั้งยังจะได้ลงพื้นที่เก็บข้อมูลในชุมชนผู้โยกย้ายถิ่นฐานเพื่อสร้างสรรค์ผลงานในเชิงลึกร่วมกับทางไอโอเอ็ม

ทุกผลงานที่ผ่านการคัดเลือกจะได้รับการเผยแพร่ผ่านทางเว็บไซต์ของไอโอเอ็มและนำเสนอต่อสื่อมวลชน โดยผู้ได้รับทุนสามารถผลิตสื่อออกมาในรูปแบบใดก็ได้ อาทิ สื่อสิ่งพิมพ์ สื่อโสต ภาพนิ่งและภาพเคลื่อนไหว
